New Way To Increase Seed Oil In Crops

Crops and agriculture is a very important thing that keeps our planet together. It’s important to understand our needs of crops for many different reasons including nutrition, the lifecycle of life and other habitats for animals and insects. This is why scientists and researchers focus their times and efforts to find ways to save crops and increase their numbers. At some point on our planet, we will not have anything left except these crops as a source of nutrition.

However, a recent study conducted by a team of scientists from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) were able to introduce a new way to increase the seed oil that comes from crops. This new development is said to be sustainable and can be sued to increase different types of crops. The increase observed was up to 15% in the seed oil for crops; inside labs.

This study shows affectivity on different types of crops including soybean, sunflower, and Canola. This is very strong business on the financial level which means that the development will help change the economic presence of crops to a whole new level.

The study was published by Assistant Professor Wei Ma from NTU’s School of Biological Sciences in the Plant Signaling & Behavior Journal. The study was achieved through modifying a certain protein found in plants called WRI1 which can increase the production of plant oils. Dr. Wei commented on the results saying, “Plant seed oil is an essential component in our daily diet and the agricultural industry is seeking ways to maximize plants’ yield.”
